Spanish health authorities have detected a new case of the dangerous bacterium Listeria monocytogenes in meat products. This time, it concerns sliced sausage under the Nuestra Alacena (DIA) brand, packaged in 150-gram cans. The product has an expiration date of November 18, 2025, and was intended for refrigeration.
The alert was raised by health specialists from Andalusia via the national rapid information exchange system. The product was mainly distributed in Andalusia, but some batches may have reached other regions of the country. In response, authorities have begun inspecting retail outlets and removing the suspicious products from shelves.
Consumers who have this product at home are strongly advised not to eat it. If symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever appear after consuming the sausage, seek medical attention immediately, as these are typical signs of listeriosis.
Special attention is given to pregnant women: the infection is particularly dangerous for them. They are advised to follow the latest nutrition and hygiene guidelines to minimize health risks. Doctors remind that Listeria can spread through foods that have not been properly cooked and stress the importance of maintaining kitchen cleanliness to prevent cross-contamination.
All autonomous communities have now been notified to monitor the withdrawal of the product. Health authorities continue to track the situation and urge citizens to be cautious when choosing meat products, especially those with long shelf lives or that are pre-sliced and factory-packaged.
Listeriosis is an illness that can range from mild to severe, particularly in people with weakened immune systems, the elderly, and pregnant women. Symptoms may not appear immediately and can develop several days after consuming contaminated food. If infection is suspected, doctors advise against self-medicating and recommend seeking medical attention as soon as possible.
The situation is under control, but experts remind everyone: even if there are no obvious signs of spoilage, products that are subject to health warnings should not be consumed. Stay updated and follow food safety guidelines.
