An unusual incident occurred in Palma: an eight-year-old boy was found alone on school grounds on a day when classes were not held. The situation drew the attention of a passerby, who saw the child in the empty courtyard and decided to seek help.
Police officers arrived at the scene in the morning, around eight o’clock. The school gates were closed, but could easily be opened from the inside. Inside the schoolyard, they found the boy, who explained that he had come as usual but, seeing no classmates or teachers, realized that there were no classes today. He decided to stay and wait for his mother to return for him.
Realizing that the child could not be left alone, the police escorted him to a neighboring educational center where an event was taking place that day. There, they were joined by an employee of the educational service who knew the boy’s family. With her help, they were able to contact the child’s mother by phone.
The woman was invited to the Eastern District police station. She explained that she had brought her son to school, made sure he entered the premises, and only then left to run errands. It turned out she did not know that there would be no classes that day. After checking her documents and confirming their relationship, the boy was handed over to his mother.
This incident sparked discussions among parents and teachers. Many have started to consider the need for clearer communication with families about the school calendar to prevent similar situations in the future. It is important to note that the child was under adult supervision at all times and was never in any danger.
