Disability Pensions in Spain: What Will Change in 2026
In 2026, Spain is set to see a significant increase in all types of pensions, including disability payments. This comes as a result of a law linking annual pension adjustments to inflation. It is already known that the increase will be around 2.6%, affecting more than 9 million people nationwide.
The official confirmation of the new payment amounts will appear in December, with final approval expected by the end of the year. This means that from January 2026, retirees will begin receiving higher payments.
Which Payments Will Increase: Detailed Breakdown by Pension Type
Disability payments in Spain are divided into several categories, depending on the degree of loss of working capacity. In 2025, the average disability pension stood at €1,209 per month. After the increase in 2026, this amount will rise to €1,239. For those receiving a full disability pension with a dependent, payments will grow from €1,127.60 to €1,156.87. If there is no dependent, the amount will be €897.16.
Pensioners with severe disabilities who require ongoing assistance will also see a boost. In 2026, their payments will reach €1,735.22 if they have a dependent, and €1,345.74 without one. This is a substantial support for those who particularly need extra financial assistance.
Other types of pensions will also see increases
The changes will affect not only disability benefits. Old-age pensions, survivor pensions, and other types of benefits will also be indexed. For instance, the average old-age pension will increase from €1,506 to €1,544 per month. Survivor benefits will rise to €961.5, and orphan’s benefits to €530.84 per month. The maximum pension in the country will reach €3,355 per month.
Thus, starting in 2026, most pensioners in Spain can expect higher payments. This measure aims to offset rising prices and support the standard of living for elderly and vulnerable citizens.
