The Provincial Court of Madrid (Audiencia Provincial de Madrid) has upheld the decision to prosecute Alberto González Amador, who is in a relationship with Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Madrid autonomous community. He is suspected of committing two tax offenses and document forgery related to alleged tax evasion for the years 2020 and 2021.
The judicial panel rejected the appeal filed by both González Amador himself and the company Maxwell Cremona Ingeniería y Procesos Sociedad para el fomento del Medioambiente S.L. The defense insisted on overturning the previous ruling, arguing that they were not given an opportunity to carry out necessary investigative actions, which, in their view, infringed their rights to defense and a fair trial guaranteed by the Spanish Constitution.
However, the judges noted that several of the requested investigative actions, including witness questioning and an additional expert review of the tax report submitted late, had already been denied. The court held that this evidence was not critical to determining the facts of the case.
During the proceedings, González Amador exercised his right to remain silent but expressed his willingness to testify after a separate episode of the case was considered. Nevertheless, he never submitted a renewed request to be questioned.
As a result, the court has finally rejected the appeal and upheld the decision to conclude the investigative phase. The case now moves to the next stage—preparation for the substantive court hearing. This ruling means that the charges against González Amador remain in force, and he will have to defend himself in court against accusations of tax crimes and document forgery.
