An unusual support program is launching in the Madrid region of Spain, targeting young people who both study and work. They will now have the opportunity to get back part of their education expenses—up to 400 euros per year. The measure applies to those under 30 years old who officially combine studies with employment.
The program was announced at the official opening of the new academic year at a vocational college in Móstoles. The head of the Madrid region emphasized that this new tax benefit is designed for those who not only pursue knowledge but also contribute to the region’s economy through their work. According to the program’s terms, young people will be able to get back up to half the cost of their university or higher vocational training courses, but no more than 400 euros per year.
To take advantage of this benefit, students must be enrolled full-time and provide proof of employment for at least 300 days in a year. At least five of those months must overlap with the academic period. Notably, internships and training contracts do not count toward eligibility for the reimbursement.
According to regional authorities, around 15,000 young residents of Madrid are expected to benefit from this new opportunity. Up to 6 million euros have been allocated for the program. This measure is part of a broader strategy to support youth and improve access to higher education, as well as to encourage student employment. Authorities hope that such initiatives will help young people pursue their careers with greater confidence and not forgo education due to financial difficulties.
