This Saturday, the streets of Madrid will once again become the stage for a large-scale demonstration in support of Palestine. The organizers, representing dozens of different groups, expect a significant turnout. It is already known that traffic in the city center will be seriously disrupted, with closures affecting key thoroughfares, including well-known streets such as Paseo del Prado, Gran Vía, as well as Plaza de Cibeles and Calle Alcalá.
The march will begin at 18:00 at Atocha, after which the procession will move along the busiest routes of the capital. Traffic restrictions are expected to be in place from 17:15 and last until approximately 22:00. The final destination will be Plaza de Callao, located in the heart of Madrid. Residents and visitors are advised to plan alternative routes in advance to avoid congestion and delays.
The demonstration is part of an international campaign in solidarity with the Palestinian people, which has been gaining momentum recently, especially following the recent events related to the attack on the Global Sumud flotilla. The action is supported not only by human rights groups, but also by political parties, trade unions, as well as student and cultural communities. The main goal of the participants is to protest against violence, demand an arms embargo, and call for a severance of diplomatic ties with Israel. The slogans chosen for the march emphasize the condemnation of occupation and call for an end to what participants describe as genocide.
Such demonstrations are taking place not only in Madrid, but also in other cities across Spain and around the world, giving the movement a truly global scale. In recent days, the capital has already seen pickets outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building on Plaza de la Provincia, as well as local actions in neighborhoods like Lavapiés, where residents are actively expressing their stance. In addition, students from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid have organized an overnight strike at the faculty of information sciences, supporting the overall wave of solidarity. Various initiatives supporting the Palestinian cause and raising public interest in current events continue in Madrid’s hospitals, universities, and cultural centers.
City authorities warn: on this day, special attention should be paid when planning routes, as Madrid’s city center will for several hours become an area of large crowds and temporary restrictions.
