In Madrid, Spanish President Pedro Sánchez addressed the Congress of Deputies, where he presented a new documentary series dedicated to the events of February 23, 1981. According to him, this project not only revisits key moments in history but also serves as a reminder of the fragility of democratic institutions in modern society.
Sánchez emphasized that the current era demands special attention to the preservation of democratic values. Addressing the younger generation, he stressed that freedom and citizens’ rights cannot be taken for granted. In the Prime Minister’s view, society must be ready to resist any attempts to limit or subvert democracy, regardless of how these threats present themselves.
The president did not directly comment on the recent court decision regarding the Attorney General, but his speech made it clear that any abuse of power or attempts to bring democracy under control are unacceptable. Sánchez expressed confidence that only through joint efforts can the sovereignty of the people be protected and a return to authoritarian practices prevented.
In closing, Sánchez reminded everyone that democracy requires daily protection and the constant participation of citizens. He called on people not to succumb to nostalgia for the past or allow economic interests and political ambitions to influence the foundations of the state. In his view, only proactive civic engagement can ensure the country’s stability and growth.
