On Thursday evening, an unusual incident occurred on one of Seville’s busiest bridges — the Centenario Bridge (Puente del Centenario). A portable restroom used by construction workers fell from a significant height onto the roadway. Upon impact, the plastic structure burst into pieces, scattering its contents across the road.
Traffic halted, but no one was injured
The incident happened around 17:30, during heavy traffic on the bridge. Despite the fact that the cabin landed directly in the central lane, not a single vehicle was hit. Drivers had to brake sharply to avoid colliding with the unexpected obstacle. Fortunately, no one was hurt and no vehicles were damaged.
Causes of the incident and ongoing work on the bridge
At the time of the incident, large-scale work was underway on the Centenario Bridge to replace the supporting cables. The portable restroom was being moved with construction equipment when it suddenly slipped and fell. A major company is carrying out the project, with the contract valued at over 100 million euros. This initiative is considered one of the most significant for the city in recent years.
Project scrutiny and potential consequences
The bridge reconstruction has been repeatedly discussed due to its ties to a high-profile corruption case involving a former politician. After the cabin fell, safety concerns at the site increased. Despite the incident, work on the bridge continues, and traffic was quickly restored.
