In the next 24 hours, much of Spain will face a sharp deterioration in weather conditions. Incoming atmospheric fronts will bring gale-force winds, heavy downpours and thunderstorms, as well as dangerous coastal storms. The situation is expected to be particularly challenging in the west and south of the country, where the severe weather could disrupt daily life.
A high weather alert has been issued in several provinces, including Cádiz, Huelva, and Sevilla. Up to 30 liters of rainfall per square meter may fall in a short period here, posing risks of local flooding and travel disruptions. Neighboring regions such as Ceuta, A Coruña, Ourense, Pontevedra, Badajoz, Cáceres, Córdoba, and Málaga have also received warnings, though at a less critical level.
Wind and stormy seas: which areas are most dangerous
Northern and northwestern parts of Spain will be hit by powerful winds. In some areas of Asturias and Cantabria, gusts may reach up to 110 km/h. Weather will be especially unstable in the mountain ranges of Cantabria and Picos de Europa, where the strongest winds are expected in the morning hours. In Galicia and along the coast of the Cantabrian Sea, waves could reach up to 6 meters, making boating and fishing extremely dangerous.
In the western part of Galicia and in the north of Extremadura, prolonged heavy rains are expected, while in Andalucía thunderstorms with hail and even the formation of small tornadoes along the coast are possible. In some areas of the southwest, large hail may occur, which could damage cars and farmlands.
Weather in the center, south, and Canary Islands
In central and southern regions of Spain, the sky will be overcast, with thunderstorms developing throughout the day. In Andalucía, meteorologists do not rule out tornadoes and waterspouts, especially near the coast. In Extremadura and the west of Castilla y León, rain may be nearly continuous, while in the southern regions gusty winds and hail are also expected.
The weather in the Canary Islands will be calmer, but brief showers are possible in Tenerife and La Palma in the morning. No significant changes are expected elsewhere in the archipelago, with cloudiness persisting and stable temperatures.
Temperature swings and recommendations
In the western regions and the Canaries, temperatures will drop noticeably, especially at night. Meanwhile, a slight increase in temperatures is possible in the Ebro Valley and central Spain. No significant changes are expected elsewhere.
Residents and visitors in coastal and mountainous areas are advised to be especially cautious: weather conditions may deteriorate rapidly, and strong winds and rough seas pose a real threat to life and property. Tourists and locals are encouraged to avoid going out to sea and to closely monitor weather updates.
