In the heart of Madrid, nighttime operations to clear debris from the collapsed construction site have concluded. Rescue crews have recovered the bodies of all four people who were reported missing after the tragedy. Among the victims were three men working on the site and an employee from the company managing the reconstruction.
The disaster occurred at a construction site where renovations had been underway for several months to convert the building into a hotel. At the time of the collapse, between thirty and forty people were present. According to the foreman, some workers were on various floors when one of the upper-level slabs suddenly gave way. The falling structures destroyed the lower floors, trapping people beneath the debris.
Two of the victims were found in the basement, while another was located at the very top of the six-story building. Three more people sustained injuries of varying severity and received medical attention. After the last bodies were recovered, only a fire watch remained at the scene to monitor the situation and prevent any further risks.
City officials stated that all the necessary permits for the work had been obtained, and that investigators will now determine the cause of the tragedy. Police have launched an investigation to establish what exactly led to such severe consequences. Incidents like this are rare in Madrid, which is why the case is receiving particular attention.
