Spain has decided to extend government support for public transportation through all of 2026. The government has announced the launch of a unified pass that will combine various types of travel cards and tariffs. A total of €1.371 billion has been allocated for this initiative. The goal is to make travel across the country more accessible for all citizens and simplify the payment system.
According to officials, existing transport subsidies will remain in place, and the new unified pass will allow passengers to use different types of public transport without needing to buy separate tickets for each route or region. This decision is part of a major program to promote sustainable mobility and reduce the financial burden on public transport users.
Introducing the unified pass aims not only to make life easier for passengers but also to boost the appeal of public transportation amid rising costs and economic uncertainty. Authorities expect this measure to encourage more people to choose buses, the metro, and trains over private cars, which in turn will benefit the environment and ease urban transport congestion.
