This year, the Christmas lottery once again brought Spain together as the fourth and fifth prizes were scattered across the country. Two fourth-place numbers — 78477 and 25508 — awarded their holders €20,000 for each ticket purchased. These amounts are tax-free, which added to the winners’ joy. Fifth-place prizes, as usual, were the most numerous: 23112, 60649, 77715, 25412, 61366, 94273, 41716, and 18669. Each came with a prize of €6,000 per ticket, and winners were found in dozens of cities and villages.
Particular attention was drawn to the story of the Garay family from Andorra (Teruel). Every family member bought the same number after an unusual event: the night before, they heard mysterious voices that seemed to urge them to pick a ticket ending in 12. That number turned out to be a winner, bringing joy to several generations at once.
Lucky tickets
The first of the fourth prizes, 78477, was drawn in the morning and became a true gift for residents of Cazorla (Jaén), Getafe, Badalona, San Lorenzo del Escorial, and other cities. In Cazorla, where the town’s only lottery administration has operated since 1957, €24 million worth of tickets were sold. The administration’s owner, María José Yuste, could not hide her emotions, as the prizes went not only to city residents but also to those from surrounding villages.
The second fourth prize, 25508, was announced closer to noon and brought good fortune to residents of Almería, Ourense, Toledo, and Madrid. The largest share of the winnings went to Moraira (Alicante), where more than 105 series were sold—over 21 million euros. Festivities continued on Altamira Street in Almería: locals celebrated their luck right outside the administration office at number 15, while the owner, Antonio Martínez, happily shared that part of the tickets was sold online and the rest to regular customers.
Music and traditions
In Teulada (Alicante), members of a musical group had been purchasing the same number—25508—for 37 years in a row. This year, their patience paid off: they took to the streets with their instruments and held a true celebration. The administration owner, Mila Caselles, proudly reported that she distributed 110 tickets, with the majority of the winnings going to the musicians. The remaining tickets were sent to Benidorm and Pedreguer, with whom the administration regularly exchanges numbers.
The first fifth prizes also came with surprises. One of them, 60649, was sold in thirty cities at once. Another, 77715, brought joy to Aranda de Duero (Burgos) and Zaragoza. They were followed by 25412 and 61366, which also found their lucky winners.
The geography of luck
The sixth of the fifth prizes, 94273, was won almost entirely in Monzón (Huesca), where residents received over 9 million euros, as well as in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid). Later in the afternoon, the final two fifth prizes were announced. One of them, 41716, brought 600,000 euros to residents of the Su Eminencia district in Seville. For Rosario Macías, who opened her lottery office only this year, it was a true shock—every ticket was sold to locals, and the joy was shared by the entire neighborhood.
In Toledo, two lottery offices located just 50 meters apart once again found themselves in the spotlight. “La Caprichosa” sold a full series of the fourth prize, 78477, and among the winners were both locals and tourists. Owner Carlos Gómez couldn’t hide his excitement: for seven years in a row, his establishment has delivered luck. His brother Rodrigo noted that their success is the result of hard work and a well-planned sales strategy.
A friendly neighborhood rivalry
The second office, “Doña Lola,” celebrated its 50th anniversary and also found itself among the winners, selling a series of the fifth prize, 60649. There is a friendly competition between the two offices, as each year they bring new wins to their clients. This year, “Doña Lola” also sold a series of the fourth prize, 25508.
A festive atmosphere, the emotions of the winners, and unexpected stories once again made the Christmas Lottery the main event of December. Spaniards across the country shared the joy, and luck, as always, proved unpredictable.
