Streets Closed in Central Madrid and Other Spanish Cities on November 25 Due to Anti-Violence Demonstrations

Marches and rallies sweep Madrid, Barcelona, and beyond—find out where traffic will be disrupted

On November 25, Spain will see large-scale demonstrations against violence toward women. Road closures and transport changes are expected in Madrid, Barcelona, and other cities. Find out which areas will be affected.

Mass demonstrations set to sweep dozens of cities

On the evening of November 25, the main streets of Spain’s largest cities will once again fill with participants marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. More than forty marches and rallies are planned across the country, organized by women’s and feminist groups. Thousands are expected to take to the streets to draw attention to the issue and demand stronger measures to protect and support victims.

Traditionally, these events are held on main city thoroughfares, leading to temporary traffic restrictions, changes in public transport routes, and partial closures in central areas. City authorities are warning residents and visitors in advance about possible disruptions and encouraging people to plan their routes accordingly.

Madrid and Barcelona: main areas affected by closures

Two major demonstrations will take place in the Spanish capital today. The first will start at 18:30 near the intersection of Alcalá and Gran Vía and finish at Plaza de España. The second is set to begin at 19:00 from Atocha station and will proceed to Jacinto Benavente square. As a result, from late afternoon, traffic will be restricted on key routes: Gran Vía, Alcalá, and also around Atocha, Paseo del Prado, and Tirso de Molina square. Disruptions to public transport routes and possible limitations for private vehicles are expected. Residents are advised to use the metro and commuter trains for travel within the city center.

Barcelona is also expecting two large-scale rallies. One will begin at 18:30 at Plaça Universitat and end at Plaça Antoni Maura. At the same time, another group will gather at Plaça Sant Jaume. Due to these events, traffic will be restricted along Gran Via, Pelai Street, Ronda Universitat, Via Laietana, and in the Gothic Quarter area. Nearby streets will also be closed to ensure the safety of participants and allow the marches to pass freely.

Protests nationwide: from the Balearic Islands to Andalusia

A wave of protests is set to sweep across all autonomous communities. On the Balearic Islands in Palma, two evening demonstrations will be held: one from Plaça d’Espanya to Plaça del Tubo, and another from Porta Pintada to Plaça de Cort. In Extremadura, the march in Badajoz will begin at 18:00 from the courthouse on Avenida de Colón to Paseo de San Francisco, while in Cáceres, it will start at 18:30 from Plaza América to Plaza Mayor. In Mérida, the route will go from Plaça d’Espanya to Templo de Diana.

In Murcia, the protest will kick off at 18:00 between Plaza Fuensanta and Plaza Martínez Tornel, with a special focus on Gran Vía and nearby streets. Evening marches will also take place in Cartagena, Lorca, and Logroño.

Canary Islands, north and south of Spain: where to expect restrictions

On the Canary Islands, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the procession will set off at 19:00 from Plaza de Santa Ana to Parque San Telmo. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the march will start at the same time from Plaza Weyler. In both cities, restrictions will affect the central tourist zones.

In Navarra, the rally in Pamplona will start at 19:00 from Plaza del Castillo. In Cantabria, the only demonstration will be held in Santander, from Puertochico to Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

In Castilla y León, rallies and marches are spread across several cities: in Valladolid at 20:00, in Palencia at the same time, in Salamanca at 19:30, and in Segovia at 19:00. Drivers planning to travel through historic city centers should expect delays.

Andalusia, Galicia and the Basque Country: mass demonstrations

In Andalucía, demonstrations will take place in eight major cities: Sevilla, Huelva, Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Jaén, and Málaga. Most events will start in the evening, with routes running through central squares and busy avenues.

In Galicia, marches will be held across all seven largest cities, with routes passing through business and shopping districts, leading to temporary traffic restrictions from midday.

In País Vasco, marches will begin simultaneously at 19:00 in Bilbao, San Sebastián, and Vitoria. In each city, the processions will move along central streets, which will also affect public transport and parking availability.

Overall, on November 25, Spain will once again become the stage for mass demonstrations, and residents are advised to anticipate possible changes to usual routes.
