On Sunday afternoon, a coach was involved in an accident on the C-32 highway near Santa Susanna. The vehicle, which was traveling between Lloret de Mar and Barcelona airport, veered off the road and overturned on the shoulder in a wooded area.
At the time of the incident, there were 53 passengers on board. According to Catalonia’s emergency services, two of them sustained serious injuries and were taken to Can Ruti hospital in Badalona. Another person suffered moderate injuries and was sent to a medical facility in Mataró. Six more passengers with minor injuries were also hospitalized in Mataró and Calella. The remaining passengers were unharmed and were able to leave the bus on their own.
Fourteen fire brigades, eight ambulances, two medical helicopters, and emergency psychological support specialists arrived at the scene. Firefighters provided first aid to the victims, inspected the bus and the surrounding area to ensure there were no other casualties, and stabilized the vehicle.
The carrier company Sarfa, part of the Moventis group, promptly dispatched a replacement bus to continue the route. Passengers who were not injured waited for the new vehicle in specially equipped tents set up by firefighters directly at the scene of the accident.
Santa Susanna Mayor Joan Campolier noted that the section of road where the incident occurred is known for good visibility and a smooth surface. He said that most of the passengers were young people heading to the airport. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Following the incident, traffic on the C-32 was temporarily completely blocked, then partially restored: only one lane is open in the southbound direction.
