In Tarragona, a court has handed down an unusual verdict: two men, aged 61 and 54, have been banned from using municipal buses for twelve months. The reason β repeated thefts from passengers on public transport. The decision follows an investigation launched after a series of complaints about stolen personal belongings on city buses.
Police arrested the suspects on October 22. It turned out these men were already known to law enforcement: active warrants for theft and participating in a criminal group were outstanding against them. At the time of the arrest, they were found with clothing for changing their appearance and face masks β all to avoid surveillance cameras and recognition by passengers.
The investigation found that over recent months, the pair had committed at least nine thefts on municipal buses. They carefully chose routes and times to remain unnoticed, frequently changing their appearance and blending in to avoid attention. However, surveillance cameras and efficient police work helped identify their usual routes and catch them in the act.
After reviewing the case materials, the court supported the prosecutor’s motion and imposed a temporary ban on city transport for the suspects. Now they’ll have to find other ways to get around the city, while passengers can feel more at ease.
