Vigo is already counting down to one of the year’s brightest events—the launch of its festive lights. This season, the city plans to outdo itself: according to initial plans, the lights will be switched on in mid-November, and the holiday atmosphere will last until January 11. Local authorities have not yet announced the exact date, but preparations are in full swing and residents are eagerly waiting for the streets to be transformed into a fairytale once again.
This year, organizers have decided not to stick to the usual routes. In addition to the well-known locations, new neighborhoods like Vialia, Bouzas, and Vía Norte will join the festivities. In total, more than 460 streets and squares will be illuminated, with nearly 12 million LEDs lighting up the city. The heart of the celebration will once again be Puerta del Sol, where a 25-meter-tall tree and a whole forest of glowing installations will be set up.
Record-breaking scale and new traditions
Every year, Vigo impresses not only with the number of lights but also with the scale of its show. This time, visitors can look forward not only to a dazzling light display but also to music, with performances repeating every hour. For those unable to make it to the square, live broadcasts will be shown on large screens and online. On festive days, the illumination will stay on late into the night: from Sunday to Wednesday until 1 a.m., and on weekends and holiday eves until 4 a.m. On special dates, the lights will stay on all night to create a truly magical atmosphere.
The city is also preparing other attractions: the traditional Cíes Market Christmas fair, ice rinks, festive markets, and a tourist train that takes visitors along the city’s most spectacular streets. All this makes Vigo one of the top winter destinations for travelers from across Spain and even abroad.
Vigo: the capital of winter wonders
Every year, the tourist flow keeps growing. City officials are confident that this season will set another record for visitor numbers. Locals have grown used to the influx of guests, and businesses are gearing up for the hustle and bustle. Restaurants, hotels, and shops are extending their hours so everyone can enjoy the festive atmosphere. Once again, Vigo proves that winter here isn’t just about the cold—it’s about light, joy, and unforgettable experiences.
