At the beginning of the week, Vox announced changes to its parliamentary team. Carlos Hernández Cero, previously responsible for housing issues at the national level, has now been appointed deputy group spokesperson in Congress. This decision surprised many, as Javier Ortega Smith had held this position for a long time and was known for his criticism of the party leadership.
Despite the change in position, Ortega Smith is not leaving politics. He will continue to oversee justice issues in the lower house and will remain a key figure in Madrid’s municipal council. Thus, his influence within Vox remains strong, though now in a slightly different capacity.
Party leaders emphasize that Hernández Cero’s appointment is aimed at increasing the party’s focus on the housing crisis, which Vox considers one of the country’s most pressing concerns. The new deputy will actively push initiatives to address the so-called ‘housing emergency,’ as well as propose alternative approaches to real estate and rental issues.
Together with Pepa Millán, who remains Vox’s main spokesperson in Congress, the deputy team now includes José María Figaredo, María Ruiz, and Carlos Hernández Cero. The leadership believes this reshuffle will give the party’s parliamentary work a new impetus and make it more effective in communicating its proposals to voters.
