Chinese automaker BYD has announced the launch of a large-scale initiative in the European market. Starting in October 2025, the company will roll out the BYD Certified program, targeting buyers of used vehicles. The project will encompass both online platforms and the brand’s official dealerships.
The main goal of the new scheme is to increase trust in the pre-owned electric vehicle segment. To achieve this, BYD is implementing a comprehensive inspection system that includes technical diagnostics, independent assessments, and extended after-sales warranties. This approach is designed to set the brand’s offering apart from competitors.
As part of BYD Certified, each vehicle undergoes a thorough inspection across 179 parameters. Not only are the technical condition and the functioning of all systems checked, but also the maintenance history is reviewed. To ensure objectivity, independent accredited organizations are involved in the process, providing transparency and eliminating bias.
Customers receive an extended warranty package. This includes at least one year or 20,000 kilometers of official support, as well as an eight-year battery warranty (or up to 200,000 kilometers). Additionally, 24/7 roadside assistance is available across Europe for two years, along with free data transfer for advanced electric vehicle features.
Special attention is given to the battery condition. The program uses its own diagnostic system that analyzes battery parameters in real time. This allows for a precise assessment of residual capacity and overall condition. All vehicles participating in BYD Certified must have at least 90% of their original battery capacity, as verified by a dedicated algorithm.
BYD management notes that the used car market in Europe is growing rapidly. Increasingly, drivers are considering electric vehicles as an affordable alternative to new cars. With the new program, the company aims to strengthen its market position and offer customers a level of service comparable to buying a new vehicle.
BYD emphasizes that, as a battery manufacturer, it can guarantee the high quality and reliability of its certified vehicles. The introduction of innovative diagnostic technologies and extended warranties is expected to provide an additional incentive for European consumers to switch to electric vehicles.
