New Seat León Battery Delivers a Range Rivals Can Only Dream Of

This hybrid León surprises even the skeptics

The Seat León 1.5 e-Hybrid FR 75 Aniversario debuts with an upgraded battery and enhanced features. The model stands out for its increased electric driving range, fast-charging capability, and sporty design elements. Driving impressions and competitor comparisons reveal unexpected nuances. It strikes a balance between efficiency and excitement—but things aren’t as simple as they seem.

Seat is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a special FR 75 Aniversario series, and the flagship of this line is the hybrid León. The new version combines sporty styling with high-tech features that make the car stand out in its segment. The exterior immediately catches the eye: black accents on the 18-inch wheels, side skirts, spoiler, and mirrors emphasize the model’s dynamic character. This attention to detail not only refreshes the design but also makes the León instantly recognizable on the road.

The main innovation is a larger 25.8 kWh battery (with 19.7 kWh usable capacity), replacing the previous 13.2 kWh unit. Thanks to this upgrade, the electric-only range has increased to 133 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, which is 69 kilometers more than the earlier version. In real-world conditions, the driver can expect about 110 kilometers without starting the gasoline engine. This result puts the León 1.5 e-Hybrid FR 75 Aniversario among the leaders in its class outside the Volkswagen Group, making it an attractive option for those prioritizing efficiency and eco-friendliness.

An important advantage is the support for fast DC charging up to 50 kW, allowing the battery to be replenished significantly faster than before. The trunk volume remains at 270 liters, which is 110 liters less than the regular five-door version without electrification, but for a hybrid hatchback this is a respectable figure. The driver can choose between Hybrid and EV modes, as well as various drive profiles including Performance, which adds 40 kW of power for rapid acceleration when the accelerator pedal is fully pressed.

Dynamics and comfort

Positioning the batteries under the rear seats and the trunk floor has altered the weight distribution: now 55% is on the rear axle, which improves cornering stability and lowers the center of gravity. The suspension with adaptive DCC chassis and sporty tuning delivers a balance between comfort and handling. Even on uneven roads, the body remains composed and the suspension effectively absorbs minor vibrations. The progressive steering system provides swift and precise responses to turns, especially noticeable during dynamic driving.

However, there are some nuances: the brake pedal has a slight initial dead travel, which is typical for many electrified models. This does not interfere with confident braking but takes some getting used to. Otherwise, the León’s behavior on the road remains predictable and pleasant, and the transition between electric and hybrid modes is smooth and seamless for the driver.

Efficiency and technology

The average fuel consumption with a fully charged battery is about 2.5 liters per 100 kilometers, and with a discharged battery—around 6 liters. This efficiency results from the hybrid system’s effective operation and the ability to frequently use electric drive in urban conditions. Equipment includes matrix LED headlights with dynamic turn signals, electronic XDS differential lock, as well as an extended set of safety and driver assistance systems.

Inside, the car impresses with high-quality materials and a modern multimedia system. All controls are intuitive, and the digital instrument panel provides all essential information about battery status, range, and selected driving mode. For those interested in hybrid innovations, it’s worth paying attention to the recent debut of the Ebro S700 HEV, which also stands out for its blend of power and efficiency — find out more about the Ebro S700 HEV’s capabilities available at russpain.com.

Operating features

The León 1.5 e-Hybrid FR 75 Aniversario is easy to maintain and suited for daily city use or highway driving. With extended electric-only range, owners can save on fuel and reduce trips to the gas station. The sporty suspension and steering settings make drives not only efficient but genuinely enjoyable. At the same time, the car upholds all the classical León advantages: reliability, practicality, and its signature design.

Seat is a Spanish brand with a rich history that has produced more than 20 million vehicles in 75 years, becoming a symbol of accessible and modern solutions for European drivers. The León model holds a special place in the brand’s lineup, combining sporty character with practicality and innovation. In the anniversary FR 75 Aniversario edition, the company focuses on technology and comfort, while maintaining the signature style and dynamic driving experience valued by Seat fans across Europe.
