Acciona shares rose more than 3 percent after EQT and Norges Bank Investment Management announced a joint bid for Acciona Energía. The move follows a sharp drop in the previous session and has drawn close attention from the Spanish market.

Acciona shares jumped more than 3 percent in early trading after news broke that Swedish investment group EQT and Norges Bank Investment Management, which manages Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, have agreed to jointly pursue a bid for Acciona Energía, the renewables division of the Entrecanales family’s group.

Within minutes of Tuesday’s opening, Acciona’s stock not only recovered the previous day’s losses but briefly climbed over 6 percent, reaching an intraday high of 208.2 euros. By 9:45 a.m., shares settled at 202.8 euros, up 3.26 percent. Acciona Energía’s own shares also rose, gaining 3.22 percent to 21.18 euros, with a peak of 4.8 percent to 21.5 euros before easing back.

EQT is participating in the consortium through its infrastructure division, holding a 75% stake, while Norges Bank Investment Management holds 25%.

The rebound followed a steep drop on Monday, when Acciona shares fell 5.67 percent to 196.4 euros. That decline was part of a wider sell-off tied to uncertainty around artificial intelligence developments, which also hit other Spanish companies like ACS, Solaria, and Merlin.

Traders quickly linked the EQT-Norges partnership, first reported by Expansión, to a coordinated effort to acquire a major stake in Spain’s renewable energy sector. The timing is notable: after a period of volatility and investor nerves, the prospect of large international investors targeting Acciona Energía has brought renewed momentum to the stock and the broader renewables market.

Other parts of Spain’s energy sector have seen similar swings, as shown in a recent report on changing consumer habits amid inflation and policy shifts. The current rise in Acciona’s share price shows how quickly sentiment can change when credible buyers step in with clear plans.

According to Expansión, Acciona Energía is valued at around 11 billion euros including debt, while an independent summary from Investing.com cites an even higher LSEG estimate of approximately 11.9 billion euros enterprise value. The process has advanced beyond non-binding offers, with final bids expected in October. EQT and Norges are now seen as leading contenders after other major players, such as KKR and BlackRock (via GIP), reportedly exited the process.

This episode highlights how quickly international investors can shift the outlook for Spanish listed companies. The EQT and Norges move is a calculated bet on the long-term value of Spain’s renewables sector, even after recent corrections. Acciona’s sharp rebound, erasing much of the previous session’s losses, shows how sensitive the market is to credible takeover interest. In a market where volatility is common and global capital is always looking for opportunities, this bid could influence future deals in Spain’s energy industry.
