Students at public universities in Andalusia will be able to apply for financial support for language certification from the 2026/2027 academic year. The initiative aims to help undergraduates meet degree-related language requirements and continue developing their foreign-language skills.
Eligible students can receive up to €300 for each accredited language qualification, with a limit of two grants per person and a potential maximum of €600. Funding is not automatic: each university will manage applications and set its own deadlines. It will also specify the required documents. There will be no single regional application window, so applicants will need to follow announcements from their university.
Who Qualifies for the Grants?
Applicants must have received a general scholarship from Spain’s Ministry of Education, the Basque Country or Navarra in the current or previous academic year. Applying for a scholarship alone is not enough; the student must have been awarded one. Students must also not have received another public subsidy for the same purpose. General scholarship systems operate under distinct administrative frameworks. National general scholarships, for example, include income and wealth thresholds. Eligibility for this language grant is assessed separately, and receiving a general scholarship does not guarantee funding.
The programme is aimed at undergraduates at Andalusia’s public universities. Each university will assess eligibility and the language qualification, then review the expenses claimed. Eligible costs are intended to relate directly to language training and certification, including course fees and examination charges. Living costs are excluded; transport and accommodation are also ineligible. The €300 is a ceiling rather than a fixed payment: the amount awarded will depend on eligible expenses and the university’s calculation.
Which Language Levels Are Covered?
The programme extends beyond the B1 level required for many Andalusian university degrees. Students may seek support to reach the minimum level required for graduation. Once they meet that requirement, they may seek funding to progress to B2 or a higher level. They may also apply to certify a second foreign language. Priority goes to students seeking the language level required for their degree; applications for higher levels or a second language may be considered if funding remains.

Upcoming Changes to Language Requirements
Andalusian public universities currently require at least B1 proficiency in a foreign language for graduation in many degree programmes. From October 2029, the minimum is due to rise to B2 for new students under the new university law. Students who began their studies before the change takes effect will be exempt from the new standard, making their enrolment date impressive. The 2026/2027 grants are intended to help students meet current requirements, progress toward B2 or certify an additional language ahead of the change.
