A worker at Arenal Sound died on Sunday afternoon after collapsing shortly before the festival’s final day was due to begin in Burriana, Castellón. Preparations were underway for the event’s last session, which marked its sixteenth edition on the beach this year. The Guardia Civil and festival organizers said initial indications point to natural causes.
The medical emergency unfolded before the gates opened to the public. Festival staff said the individual, who helped organize the event, suddenly lost consciousness. On-site medical teams responded immediately, gave first aid and arranged urgent transport to the nearest hospital, La Plana in Vila-real. Despite their efforts, the hospital later confirmed the worker’s death.
In an official statement, Arenal Sound offered deep condolences to the worker’s family and friends, as well as colleagues, and emphasized respect for their privacy. The festival declined to share further details about the circumstances. Organizers also said the exact cause of death remains unknown and that they would release no further information out of consideration for those affected.
This year’s festival coincided with a major wildfire near Vall d’Uixó that began on July 25. Against that regional backdrop, the Guardia Civil stepped up security at Arenal Sound, bringing in officers from other provinces to support local teams. The increased presence was visible throughout the event. The wildfire’s scale and ongoing investigation provide context for security at the festival, but do not establish a connection to the worker’s death.
Just hours before the festival wrapped up its anniversary edition, organizers announced the early release of 3,000 discounted tickets for the 2027 event. They are set to go on sale this Wednesday. The move comes as the festival community processes the loss of a team member and reviews its emergency protocols.
