Beatriz Padín, a key figure at Inditex and Zara Mujer director for 25 years, is leaving the company. Her departure marks a major change in the leadership of one of Spain’s most influential fashion groups.

Inditex, the Spanish fashion giant, has announced the departure of Beatriz Padín, one of its most influential executives, after more than 40 years with the company. Padín, who has led Zara Mujer for a quarter of a century, is stepping down from all her roles, ending a career that began in 1985 when she joined the company at just 17 years old. Her exit, communicated to the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), signals a significant transition for both Zara and Inditex at a time when the group continues to shape global fashion trends.

Padín’s influence within Inditex has been substantial, especially as a close ally to Marta Ortega, the group’s president since April 2022. She was a member of the management committee, a position that will not be filled following her departure. The leadership of Zara Mujer, a core business area for Inditex, now passes to Alfredo Ferro Varela, previously head of Zara Basic. However, Ferro Varela will not join the management committee, which maintains its current structure with Óscar Pérez Marcote as Zara’s director and Miguel Díaz Miranda as the brand’s financial and operations director.

Eva Pérez Salgado, who has spent 15 years at Inditex, will take over as director of Zara Basic. The company has publicly acknowledged Padín’s significant contributions, highlighting her role in overseeing design, purchasing, production, distribution, and merchandising. Since 2001, she has been at the helm of Zara Mujer, guiding the division through a period of major growth and transformation. Inditex, 60% owned by Amancio Ortega, emphasized the impact of her leadership in its official statement to the CNMV.

Padín’s career trajectory is notable for its steady rise from the shop floor to the executive suite. Starting as a presser in Arteixo, she moved through various product-related roles before assuming broader responsibilities. Her departure leaves the Inditex management committee composed of Óscar Pérez Marcote, Miguel Díaz Miranda, Ignacio Fernández Fernández (corporate general director), Antonio Flórez de la Fuente (Bershka director), Javier García Torralbo (digital area director), Begoña López-Cano (general director of people), Jorge Pérez Marcote (Massimo Dutti director), Andres Sánchez Iglesias (financial director), and Jordi Triquell Valls (Stradivarius director).

Leadership changes at major Spanish companies often draw attention to broader shifts in the country’s business landscape. For example, recent developments in political leadership, such as the internal tensions within the PP in Valencia, have also highlighted the importance of succession and stability in key institutions, as discussed in this report on party leadership challenges.

Inditex remains one of Spain’s most prominent multinational corporations, with Zara as its flagship brand. The company’s ability to adapt its leadership and maintain operational continuity is closely watched by investors and industry observers. Padín’s departure underscores the ongoing evolution within Inditex’s management as it navigates a competitive global market. The group’s structure, with a mix of experienced directors across its various brands, is designed to ensure stability and continued growth despite high-profile changes at the top.
