‘Ktálisis nómada’ extends ‘Ktálisis’, the arts-and-education project developed by Centro de Arte La Regenta, an institution of the Government of the Canary Islands, across the islands. Its first phase began in Gran Canaria late in the previous academic year, with artist Leiko presenting Vacío total at CEIP Iberia. The travelling programme has since taken the work into classrooms across the islands.
Applications are open until 4 December for public schools and artists wishing to take part in the second edition. The initiative operates within the Ministry of Culture’s Cultural Rights Plan. Seven artists from different disciplines took part in the first edition.
The programme aims to bring contemporary artistic practice into schools and their local communities. It seeks to help students build artistic and creative abilities, understand artistic languages, think critically, develop creative autonomy and take an active part in projects. Artists from any discipline can submit proposals, while participating schools can incorporate creative experiences into learning. The programme pairs each selected school with an arts-and-education project, taking account of its interests and territory.
At each school, the project will involve three working groups, with a suggested maximum of 25 students in each. Workshops and other activities will also be open to the wider school community. Artists work with pupils and teachers on inquiry and creative projects that offer ways to approach curriculum subjects through artistic practice.
The first edition has expanded beyond its Gran Canaria launch to La Gomera and Lanzarote. In October 2026, activities were under way on both islands, with Rafael Arocha teaching in La Gomera and Roberto F. Perdomo in Lanzarote. At IES Altavista in Lanzarote, Perdomo’s project, La historia menuda de Canarias, combines a multicultural approach with a focus on Canarian heritage. Sessions were scheduled to run through December.
The call is open to public centres for early childhood and primary education, as well as secondary schools, sixth-form centres, vocational training providers and special education centres. Selection will take account of territorial balance and collaboration between artists and schools.
Forms and details are available on the Centro de Arte La Regenta website. Schools can apply through the ‘Ktálisis nómada 2026-2028’ section, while artists can register proposals under ‘Presenta tu proyecto de Arte y Educación’. La Regenta is responsible for delivering the programme. Unselected proposals and interested schools will remain on a repository and list for future calls.
