AEMET extended red alerts overnight as Storm Adam brought another night of severe-rain warnings. The Balearic Islands remain under red alert, with Alicante and Valencia also facing warnings.

AEMET warned that streams and rivers could rise as heavy rain returned to Catarroja.

Residents moved their cars to higher ground as a precaution in a town already battered by rainfall. Red alerts remain active in the Balearic Islands. Alicante and Valencia are also under red alert, with rainfall potentially reaching 200 m2/l in 12 hours in some parts of the provinces. AEMET raised the warning level on 17 October for the southern coast of Valencia and the northern coast of Alicante. The alert was due to run from 10:00 on 18 October until 23:59, then was extended overnight until 10:00 on 19 October. Forecast totals in the most exposed areas topped 60 mm in an hour and 300 mm in 24 hours. Orange alerts remained in force elsewhere in Valencia and Alicante.

Storm Adam has affected Spain for two days, causing flooding in several parts of the country. The latest alerts apply during the night from Sunday into Monday. AEMET described Adam as the first episode of the 2026 season expected to have a significant impact, with intense and persistent rain forecast across eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands. The agency identified the southern Valencia coast and the area around Cape Nao in Alicante as facing the highest risk. Local forecasts there reached 60 to 90 mm in an hour and 200 to 300 mm in 12 hours.

For a separate issue affecting road users in Spain, RUSSPAIN has covered motorcycle shoulder access.
