Denza Challenges Mercedes AMG: New Z Coupé with Electric Power and 1,582 HP. Denza, the premium brand of BYD, has unveiled the electric Z Coupé — a model aimed at competing with Mercedes AMG. The car delivers up to 1,582 hp, accelerates to 350 km/h, and features an aggressive design, changing the perception of Chinese sports cars.
482 horsepower in the base version and up to 1582 hp in the top model — these are the figures with which the Denza Z Coupé immediately declares its ambitions. BYD's premium brand has unveiled an electric sports car that not only catches up with its European rivals but openly targets their audience. According to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, both versions of the Z Coupé are equipped with three electric motors: the entry-level model has 268 hp at the front and two 215 hp motors at the rear, while the flagship delivers 670 hp on the front axle and two 456 hp units at the rear.
Visually, the Z Coupé stands out with an aggressive silhouette that combines classic sports car proportions with modern aerodynamic touches. The closed version complements the previously unveiled convertible, keeping the same technical platform while focusing on everyday practicality. The top modification comes with a dedicated aerodynamic package: a redesigned front bumper, prominent splitter, unique wheels, a massive fixed spoiler, and an enlarged diffuser. This approach brings the Z Coupé closer to the visual language of track cars, although the model is fully certified for public roads.
The performance figures are impressive: the standard coupe and convertible versions reach 300 km/h, while the top Z Coupé is capable of 350 km/h. The car's weight ranges from 2220 kg in the lightest version to 2290 kg for the convertible and 2240 kg in the most powerful variant. For an electric sports car, these are significant figures, but they are justified by the large-capacity batteries and a complex powertrain.
According to BYD's concept, the Denza Z Coupé is designed not only to compete with Mercedes AMG, but also to change the perception of Chinese cars in the premium segment. The model targets those looking not just for a fast electric car, but for a prestigious and high-tech product with a striking individual character. Its appearance, technical specifications, and the claimed top speed position the Denza among the most ambitious Chinese sports cars of recent years.
Prices for the Z Coupé have not been announced yet, but industry analysts estimate that Denza intends to offer a more affordable alternative compared to its European counterparts. This could become a key advantage in markets where buyers are sensitive to the price-to-performance ratio. It is important to note that in recent years, Chinese manufacturers have increasingly entered the European market with competitive models: for example, Mazda recently updated its CX-30, strengthening its position in Europe and Spain — you can read more about this in the article on the new CX-30 versions.
The arrival of the Denza Z Coupé is not just another electric vehicle launch, but an attempt to change the balance of power in the high-performance sports car segment. If BYD's strategy succeeds, European brands will have to reckon with a new serious player from China.
