More than 220 activities are set to fill the heart of the Costa da Morte when Corcubión’s Medieval Market runs from July 24 to 26. Over three days, performances and craft demonstrations will spread through the historic town centre, alongside culinary events on the seafront, turning public spaces into stages for the medieval-themed festival.
The 2025 edition is billed as the market’s 24th anniversary. Its programme features stalls selling artisan goods and food, plus street theatre and live music. Visitors can also take part in hands-on workshops. Eight animation troupes and six musical groups are scheduled, with six large-scale shows also on the bill. Fourteen artisan workshops will offer live demonstrations. Families can visit the children’s area in Campo do Rollo, while the gardens of the Casa do Concello will feature falconry displays alongside an Arab souk. More than 500 residents and businesses from Corcubión and nearby areas are contributing to the event.
Festival Highlights
The opening-day programme starts with a children’s parade at 11:30, followed by the ceremonial raising of the banner and the official opening at 13:00. At 20:00, the Desembarco reenactment takes place on Recheo beach, recalling the 1457 clash between the forces of Archbishop Rodrigo de Luna and the Moscoso family. Deabru Beltzak’s fire-and-drum spectacle is scheduled to close the evening at 23:30. The market winds down at 00:30.
On Saturday, the market reopens at 11:00, and local actress Judith Fernández delivers the festival proclamation at 12:30. Concerts will take place in the church of San Marcos. The evening programme includes a torchlit procession at 23:00, followed at 23:30 by the “Lendas de Sangue e Aceiro” fire show.
On Sunday, the municipal theatre group will stage performances at 13:00 and 20:00. The festival’s grand finale, “Troula,” begins at 23:00, leading into the lowering of the banner and the official closing at midnight.
Community Spirit and Local Flavor
Residents play a central role in the festivities, with more than 500 locals and businesses from the town and surrounding area taking part. Many wear medieval-inspired costumes, adding to the immersive atmosphere. Fifty new banners, crafted by local seamstresses and volunteers, decorate the town, recognized as a Historic-Artistic Site since 1984. The market route passes stately homes and religious buildings before reaching the waterfront, connecting the event’s performances and stalls with Corcubión’s historic setting.
Early Events and Added Attractions
In the lead-up to the basic festival, the inaugural Milla Medieval footrace will take place on Wednesday, July 22, at 20:30. Its 1,540-metre course winds through the old town, and all 100 race places have already been filled. Meanwhile, the old jail is hosting a Playmobil exhibition recreating the Desembarco scene. It is open until August 17, with extended hours during the market weekend.
