Applications are now open for Extremadura's Cheque Guardería, a grant offering up to €2,400 per child for the 2026/2027 school year. For the first time, the scheme covers the entire first cycle of early childhood education, including children from birth to age three. The regional government has allocated €6.4 million to the program, and notably, there is no income threshold—making the support available to all families who meet the residency and enrollment requirements.
The most significant change this year is the inclusion of infants aged 0 to 1, expanding eligibility to every year of the first cycle. Children must be enrolled in non-free public nurseries or authorized private centers. Families must reside in Extremadura or hold official status as Extremadurans living abroad, and each child must have a tax identification number, even if provisional.

The grant can reach up to €200 per month for 12 months, but the actual amount depends on the family's real nursery expenses. In public nurseries run by the Junta, the grant may cover the full monthly fee. For municipal centers, it can match the local rate. In private centers, the reference is the educational care fee, and food costs can be included if part of the standard charge. However, the grant never exceeds the family's actual outlay, and voluntary extra services are excluded.

How to Apply
Families can submit applications online or in person from August 7 to October 7, 2026. Proof of compliance with tax and social security obligations is also needed, though some data may be verified directly by the administration if authorized by the applicant.
Payments will be made in three installments over the school year. The first is an advance covering September to November, while subsequent payments require proof of fees paid. If the administration does not issue a decision within three months, the application is considered rejected by default.
