The column from Torrejón de la Calzada is due to enter Madrid via Vía Lusitana, while the Guadalajara convoy will approach on the M-111. On Wednesday, 28 October, five routes will bring around 500 tractors into the capital. The organizers also expect thousands of farmers and livestock breeders from across Spain. Participants will include regional groups such as Apag Extremadura ASAJA.
The columns are expected to reach Plaza de Colón at 11.00, then continue along Paseo de Recoletos and Paseo del Prado to Glorieta del Emperador Carlos V, reaching Atocha at around 13.00. The demonstration will end outside the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. ASAJA and COAG have called the march alongside Unión de Uniones, under the slogan “Feeding people must provide a living. For a countryside with a future, solutions now!”
The organizations say rising production costs and inadequate farm profitability threaten the future of agriculture and livestock farming. Their demands include an emergency plan to address production costs, a professional agricultural diesel scheme, adequate funding for the Common Agricultural Policy, prices that properly remunerate producers’ work, reciprocity in trade agreements and simpler administration. Traffic disruption is expected from early morning as tractors enter and leave Madrid via major roads.
The first column, from Torrejón de la Calzada, will travel through Plaza Elíptica, Marcelo Usera and Vado de Santa Catalina before crossing Puente de Andalucía. It will then pass Plaza de Legazpi, Paseo de las Delicias, Embajadores, Puerta de Toledo and Gran Vía de San Francisco. From there, it continues along Bailén, through Plaza de España, Princesa, Alberto Aguilera, Carranza and Sagasta, reaching Colón via Plaza Alonso Martínez and Génova.
The Guadalajara column will enter on the M-111 and pass Glorieta de la Ermita de la Virgen de la Soledad and Avenida de Logroño. It will continue along Alcalá and Francisco Silvela, then take Joaquín Costa and Paseo de la Castellana to reach Colón. The third column, from El Espinar, will cross Puente de los Franceses and follow Paseo Ruperto Chapí, Paseo Camoens, Marqués de Urquijo and Princesa. It will join Alberto Aguilera, Carranza, Sagasta and Génova.
Coming from Buitrago del Lozoya, the fourth group will enter by Nuestra Señora de Valverde, then follow Avenida Llano Castellano, Mauricio Legendre and Daniel Vázquez Díaz. It will take Paseo de la Castellana through the Plaza de Castilla underpass before continuing to Colón.
The final column will set out from Arganda del Rey. Its route includes Pirotecnia, Aurora Boreal, Avenida Democracia, Plaza Alosno and Casalarreina, followed by Avenida Daroca Narváez and the M-23. It will enter basic Madrid by O’Donnell, then continue along Narváez and Goya to Colón.
Information from the Madrid City Council, the tractors are expected to arrive between 6.30 and 18.00, with access to the capital starting from 8.30. The march is authorised until 18.00. The council says it will use variable-message signs to report possible traffic effects. The demonstration is separate from the general strike scheduled for 11 November; employer rules for that stoppage have been outlined separately.
