Late Friday night, a car carrying four young people left a service road on the M-506 near Pinto, Madrid, rolled down an embankment, and caught fire with everyone still inside. Emergency crews arrived quickly and managed to pull all four from the burning car. One man was left in critical condition.
The crash happened around 23:23 at kilometer 23 of the M-506, according to emergency services and reports from El Confidencial citing Emergencias 112 Comunidad de Madrid. Firefighters from the Comunidad de Madrid got to the scene fast, rescued the occupants, and put out the fire, which had started to spread to the roadside. Medical teams from Summa stabilized the injured before sending them to different hospitals in Madrid.
The 19-year-old male passenger was admitted to Hospital 12 de Octubre with multiple injuries and classified as being in serious condition.
The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to Hospital Clínico San Carlos with injuries described as potentially serious. Her front-seat passenger, a 22-year-old woman, was also considered potentially serious and sent to Gregorio Marañón. In both cases, doctors did not find life-threatening injuries at first, but further tests were needed to rule out hidden trauma.
In the back seat, a 17-year-old man had minor injuries and was sent to Puerta de Hierro. The 19-year-old man in the back suffered multiple traumas and was admitted in serious condition to 12 de Octubre hospital. The quick response from Pimer-Protección Civil de Pinto and Summa was key in getting immediate care to the victims. The injured were sent to different hospitals to make sure each got the right treatment, according to El Confidencial.
The Guardia Civil has started an investigation to find out what caused the crash. So far, there are no details about possible factors like speed, road conditions, or driver impairment.
