Google has started bringing Personal Intelligence to Android Auto, letting Gemini draw on connected Google apps to answer personal queries. Spain is excluded along with the rest of the European Economic Area, with no launch date announced.

Google began rolling out Personal Intelligence in Android Auto on October 20. The feature can combine details such as a flight booking in Gmail with the flight status, but Spain and the rest of the European Economic Area are excluded.

The rollout also leaves out Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Nigeria is excluded as well. Google has not announced when the feature might reach those markets. Gemini itself is available in Android Auto in Europe, information from Notebookcheck; the regional restriction concerns access to users' connected Google apps.

What changes for drivers

Personal Intelligence adds personal context to Gemini in the car. It can find an appointment address in Google Calendar, for example, or use a photo in Google Photos to identify a car wash and handle there. Google says the feature can retrieve details from connected apps and reason across information from more than one source.

9to5Google also reports that Gemini can draw on YouTube and Search to account for preferences when responding. Those capabilities depend on users opting in: connections are managed in Gemini settings, and existing mobile app connections carry over to the car.

Android Auto requires a phone running Android 11 or later with at least 2 GB of RAM, plus Gemini set as the digital assistant and a compatible car. Users must be over 18 and have a personal Google account. Business Workspace accounts are excluded, as are corporate and education Workspace accounts. Gemini can be activated with “Hey Google,” the on-screen microphone or a long press of the steering-wheel voice button.

Google says the feature will come to vehicles with Google built-in in the coming months, without giving a date. In those cars, personalized responses are shared only when a phone is connected, 9to5Google reports. That suggests the phone provides the personal context, although Google has not clarified which processing happens on the device and which takes place in the cloud.

Connected data and privacy limits

Personal Intelligence is opt-in, but connecting an app does not settle what happens to the resulting activity. Google's privacy page says Gemini activity, including information from connected apps, may be used to improve Google services and train generative models when the setting to save activity is enabled.

Google says it does not train directly on Gmail or Lead. The same policy covers Contacts and Calendar, along with Wallet and images and audio from Google Photos. It may, but, use summaries or excerpts. That can include generated media and inferences derived from that material. Some processed connected-app data can be reviewed by people, including trained service providers. Disconnecting an app does not delete Gemini activity already recorded, and changes in connected apps may take days to appear.

Google has not publicly explained why the EEA is excluded. Its announcement does not cite the Digital Markets Act, the EU regulation covering how large platforms combine data across services. The absence of an explanation leaves the reason unconfirmed.

Personal Intelligence first launched in the United States on January 20, 2026, for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, according to Gemini launch notes. TechCrunch and Engadget reported an expansion to free accounts and global markets in March, but the source notes that no official announcement confirms that change. Google's current pages no longer list a subscription requirement. Contact access remains limited to the United States, English and AI Ultra subscribers.

The shift toward connected services is part of a wider change in the Spanish car market, though the two developments are separate: Ebro's sales growth concerns vehicle buying, while Google's feature concerns data access inside the car. For Spanish drivers, Personal Intelligence has no confirmed availability date.

Google's help page also warns that Gemini can hallucinate and present inaccurate information as fact, and says drivers should not rely on it for critical information or safety-related matters.
