Kaufland launches online marketplace in Spain: millions of products and fast delivery. Kaufland is opening a marketplace in Spain offering millions of products and customer support in Spanish. Orders are promised to be delivered within 2–7 days. More than 500 Spanish sellers are already active on the platform in other countries.
The German retailer Kaufland has announced the launch of its own online marketplace in Spain this summer. The company, part of the Schwarz Group (which also owns Lidl), will, for the first time, offer Spanish consumers access to millions of products from third-party sellers with fast delivery and customer support in Spanish. The new service will be available on the Kaufland.es platform and will cover more than 6,400 product categories—from groceries and home appliances to clothing, household goods, sports, and pet products.
Unlike traditional hypermarkets, the Kaufland online marketplace operates as a digital shopping center where each seller independently lists and ships their goods. According to the company, most orders will be delivered free of charge within two to seven business days. Spanish-language customer support will be available: questions about products and orders can be asked either by phone or through a special form on the website.
Entering the Spanish market is part of Kaufland's large-scale digital expansion in Europe. The chain currently operates more than 1,600 stores in Germany, Romania, Slovakia, and other countries, but its main growth comes from online sales. Over the past year, the Kaufland marketplace attracted 220 million shoppers in 12 European countries. In Germany, the platform’s monthly audience reaches 32 million users, and the catalog exceeds 45 million items.
Spanish sellers have already begun registering on the new platform. More than 500 companies from Spain previously entered Kaufland marketplaces in other European countries. The platform offers them tools for accepting payments in euros, as well as popular payment methods including Bizum and PayPal. In addition, the company is implementing a 'buy now — pay later' option and actively promoting products through multiplatform marketing.
In other countries, the marketplace launch showed significant growth: in Austria, Kaufland.at revenues increased by 439% year on year, and in Poland (Kaufland.pl) by 322%. In Spain, the launch coincides with the platform’s entry into the Dutch market, making the network one of the fastest-growing in Europe. By the end of last year, Kaufland's online revenues grew by 2.9% to reach €1.7 billion.
The arrival of a new major player could intensify competition with networks such as Ikea, Leroy Merlín, Amazon, and AliExpress, which are already active in the Spanish market. A focus on digital services and expanding assortments has been one of the main trends in recent years. Against this backdrop, new formats continue to launch in Spain: for example, a unique competition recently started on RTVE with a prize fund of €150,000. Details can be found in the article about the launch of a new show with an open casting.
For reference: Kaufland is one of the largest retail chains in Europe, focused on a wide assortment and affordable prices. In recent years, the company has actively invested in digital solutions and expanded into new markets. The launch of the marketplace in Spain is expected to give local shoppers more choice and faster delivery, while opening new sales channels for vendors.
