iCaur, a new brand from Chery Group, is preparing a 2027 European launch with three electric and range-extended SUVs, led by the five-meter-long iCaur V27. The model made its first European appearance ahead of schedule at AUTO ATHINA 2026 in Greece, with first deliveries to Greek buyers expected in early 2027. The all-wheel-lead version will start at €54,900.
The brand is focusing on rugged styling for off-road use, alongside electric powertrains with extended range. The V27 pairs a 1.5 turbo petrol generator with one or two electric motors. Buyers can choose rear-wheel lead at 252 CV or all-wheel lead at 456 CV (335 kW/455 hp, with 505 Nm of torque for AWD). The V27 uses an EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) platform: its petrol engine works only as a generator and never drives the wheels.
At the Bucharest Auto Show, iCaur was officially introduced to Romania through Auto Italia. Gandul reported that the rear-wheel-lead V27 is priced from €45,900, making Romania one of the first European launch markets. Chery Auto already has a foothold in Europe with its Omoda and Jaecoo brands and also sells cars under its own name in the UK. iCaur is taking a different path. In China, the brand is called ‘iCar’; to avoid legal trouble with Apple over the name, it will use ‘iCaur’ outside China.
The first wave will focus on Austria and Romania. Spain and other countries may follow as plans firm up later this year. The full lineup has not yet been officially announced, but the V27 is set to lead, followed by two smaller models: the iCaur V23 and V25. The V23 is a compact, 4.2-meter all-electric SUV with rear- or all-wheel lead and a choice of 60 kWh or 81 kWh batteries. The V25 measures 4.6 meters and uses the same range-extended hybrid system as the V27, pairing a 1.5-liter petrol generator with a 34 kWh battery. The Manila Times reports that the V27 is 5,045 mm long and has a 2,900 mm wheelbase. It seats five and comes with a tow hitch for trailers weighing up to 1.6 tons. In Greece, deliveries of the V23 and V25 are expected after the V27 launch.
The V27 launched in China with a 34.3 kWh battery, giving it a claimed electric-only range of 210 kilometers and a total range of 1,230 kilometers under the CLTC standard. For Europe, VNExpress and NewsAuto report that the iWD version has a 34.31 kWh battery, offering about 200 km on electric power and up to 1,200 km combined. Fast DC charging at 100 kW can take the battery from 10% to 80% in about 17 minutes. These figures may vary by market and model; the 1,230 km figure applies to some versions, not all.
For Spanish buyers, iCaur could be a challenger in a crowded field. Its focus on extended-range electric SUVs with off-road capabilities may appeal to drivers looking for more than a standard crossover. Other brands are also expanding their electric SUV offerings. Hyundai’s Ioniq 3 launch, as reported earlier, shows the competition is intensifying.
Chery’s decision to launch iCaur under a new name in Europe addresses a legal issue and signals an effort to stand out in a crowded market. The V27’s specifications position iCaur beyond price competition. If the company delivers, Europe’s SUV market could see a shake-up, and established brands may have to rethink what buyers expect from electric SUVs in terms of range and real-world use.
