Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a four-door electric GT that redefines the brand’s identity with 1030 horsepower, a triple-motor setup, and a strikingly unconventional design. Orders open in 2027 with a starting price of 165000 euros.

Jaguar has ripped up its own playbook. The new Type 01 is a four-door electric GT with 1030 horsepower and a look that breaks from everything the brand has done before. This car is not a gentle update. Jaguar is making a hard turn toward a new era of luxury and speed.

The numbers are bold. The Type 01 stretches 5.24 meters long and stands just 1.40 meters tall. Its long bonnet, short front overhang, stretched rear, and ultra-low roofline give it a dramatic, modern shape. Standard 23-inch wheels make the car look even more aggressive. Buyers can pick 21-inch wheels if they want something more practical.

Jaguar Type 01 is the first production model to use the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), featuring three electric motors with intelligent torque distribution.

Every detail is functional. The Type 01 has a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd, making it the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever. Hidden front air intakes open only when needed. The rear spoiler pops up in three stages—rising to seven degrees above 80 km/h and up to 21 degrees above 155 km/h. That creates up to 75 kg of downforce. The lighting is just as bold. Digital LED headlights are only 84 mm tall, each with 17000 pixels. Rear lights stay invisible until lit, blending into the body’s horizontal lines.

Step inside and the old Jaguar cabin is gone. The interior is split into four zones by a sweeping central console. The driver sits low, facing a 24-inch OLED display. There’s a 7-inch touchscreen between the front seats and another for the back. Comfort is a priority. The front seats have 12-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage. Rear seats get heating and ventilation too. Luggage space is generous—450 liters in the boot, up to 1000 liters with the rear seats folded down.

Tech is everywhere. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The car has 5G, over-the-air updates, and a voice assistant that handles multi-step commands. The sound system is a showpiece. There are 38 speakers in the panoramic sound bar, headrests, and even the seats. This setup matches the best luxury cars on the market.

According to industry sources, the Type 01 can add up to 321 km of range in just 13 minutes when using a 350 kW charging station, thanks to its 118 kWh battery and 850-volt system. The expected EPA range is up to 644 km, positioning the Type 01 among the leaders in electric GT range.

The powertrain is the real headline. Three electric motors—one 260 kW up front, two 310 kW at the rear—combine for 757 kW (1030 CV) and 1365 Nm of torque. All-wheel drive is standard. The numbers are wild. The Type 01 hits 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. It goes from 100 to 180 km/h in just four seconds. At 100 km/h, it uses only 2% of its power. Several automotive publications confirm this is the most powerful road-legal Jaguar ever. Its 0–100 km/h time is just behind the fastest Porsche Taycan models.

The battery is just as ambitious. It holds 118 kWh, runs on an 850-volt system, and is rated for 643 km (EPA) or up to 720 km (WLTP). On the highway, it can cover 515 km at a steady pace. Fast charging is built in. With a 350 kW DC charger, the Type 01 can recover 321 km of range in 13 minutes. Charging from 10% to 80% takes about 22 minutes. It also supports 250 kW charging on 400-volt systems and up to 22 kW on AC. There are two charging ports, one on each side of the car. That’s rare.

Thermal management is handled by the ThermAssist system. It works between -40 and 40 degrees Celsius, using heat from the motors, battery, and cabin to keep range and charging times optimal. Jaguar is aiming high. AutocarPro reports the Type 01 will go up against the Porsche Taycan and Polestar 5. Jaguar is betting on extreme power, long range, and a look that stands out. This is not a car for the masses.

Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s Managing Director, put it plainly: “From its spectacular design to its captivating drive, the Type 01 distills the essence of Jaguar in a luxury GT for a new era. The Type 01 is the pillar of this British brand, a vehicle that makes no compromises between design and engineering in our quest to create objects of desire, just as with the E-Type and XJS.”

The Type 01’s debut lands in a segment full of bold moves. The recent Mercedes S 450 d 4Matic also took a different path with its own mix of power and comfort.

Orders for the Type 01 open in early 2027. The starting price is 165000 euros. This is more than a new model. Jaguar is making a statement. The brand is done following the crowd. Now it wants to lead, with radical design, top technology, and raw power. The electric age just got a new contender.
