Mossos d'Esquadra arrested Josep Juanpere's partner in Madrid on 23 September 2026, after roughly nine months of investigating the architect's death in Baqueira on 26 December 2025. A judge in Vielha later ordered her into pre-trial custody, with release possible on 80,000 euros bail.
She appeared before the judge on Friday, 25 September. The woman is accused of homicide over her alleged involvement in the death. The Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Cataluña, or TSJC, said the court acted after hearing her statement. The case remains open; its final legal classification has not been decided.
GCA Architects described Juanpere as one of the firm's co-founders. He died on 26 December at the age of 72. EFE and other media reports identify the year as 2025.
Juanpere was found at his home in Baqueira, in the Lleida municipality of Naut Aran. Case information says his partner was with him. Reports described the property as Juanpere's second home. The circumstances led the court to investigate possible responsibility for homicide; officials are not treating the death solely as an unexplained medical event.
Two days before his death, Juanpere went to a hospital in Vielha after feeling unwell following a dinner. The account identifies the hospital as being in Barcelona. The visit falls within the timeline before the fatal episode at the Baqueira residence.
EFE reported that the investigation remained under judicial secrecy for almost nine months. During that period, the Mossos d’Esquadra examined the circumstances of the death before arresting Juanpere’s partner as someone allegedly connected to the case.
The arrest in Madrid and the court appearance in Vielha link two locations in the same investigation. ARA reported that prosecutors requested pre-trial custody on the terms later adopted by the court: prison, with the option of release on 80,000 euros bail.
The bail is a condition of the precautionary order, not a criminal sentence. Depositing the 80,000 euros would allow her to avoid prison.
