Three wagons broke loose from a private rail spur in Martorell and struck a Renfe Mercancías locomotive. The driver was taken to a medical centre and was in good condition. Rodalies services were unaffected.

At about 3:20 p.m. on 3 November 2026, three freight wagons became detached from another convoy in the private Cargill railway siding in Martorell, Barcelona, and rolled onto Spain’s general-interest rail network, the REFIG. Adif sources cited by EFE said the wagons struck a Renfe Mercancías locomotive positioned on the REFIG. All three derailed in the area where the collision occurred.

A driver was aboard the Renfe Mercancías locomotive. Renfe sources told EFE that he was taken to a medical centre under the protocol for incidents of this kind. He was in good condition and had not been injured.

The cause of the wagons coming loose has not been determined. Renfe said the incident did not affect Rodalies passenger services, and El Economista reported that rail traffic on the general network was also unaffected.
