Mercedes-Benz plans to deliver 200 electric trucks to Amazon’s UK operations. The deal was announced at the II Foro sobre ‘Transición energética y sostenibilidad del transporte’ at Zaragoza’s Mobility City.
Javier Blanco, head of eMobility for Daimler Truck in Spain, spoke at the event about Mercedes-Benz’s plans to cut emissions in logistics. His remarks placed the electric-truck deal in the broader European debate over greener transport.
Independent industry sources say Amazon has already put the first 27 Mercedes eActros 600 electric trucks into operation in Germany. More than 50 are expected in the German network by the end of 2026.
Experts at the Zaragoza forum examined how freight can move away from diesel and toward cleaner energy, including practical ways to cut carbon emissions. Mercedes-Benz’s deal with Amazon was one example. Sector publications covering IAA 2026 describe the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 as a flagship long-haul electric truck. It can travel about 500 km on a charge and supports ultra-fast charging. The company is also developing battery-electric and hydrogen trucks, while continuing to advance diesel models for different freight decarbonization needs.
Companies are moving at different speeds. Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to Amazon stands out. Delivering 200 electric trucks to the UK marks a impressive step for a freight sector facing tough challenges as it shifts to new energy. Spain’s electric vehicle sector is also gaining ground, as reported earlier. Independent English-language sources say Amazon’s UK fleet will add 140 fully electric Mercedes eActros 600 trucks. The UK project is part of Amazon’s wider European push.
Zaragoza’s Mobility City hosted the announcement. The forum covered topics from alternative fuels to decarbonization, and Mercedes-Benz used the event to call for faster adoption of electric trucks in commercial fleets. Industry reports say Mercedes-Benz Trucks will offer megawatt charging (MCS) for the eActros 600 starting in 2027, while retaining the standard CCS interface. That should reduce downtime and help keep trucks on the road.
Amazon is rolling out charging infrastructure at its European sites to support heavy-duty electric trucks, with hundreds of truck charging points already in place. Sector publications report that charging the eActros 600 from 10% to 80% takes approximately 70 minutes.
The move by Mercedes-Benz and Amazon signals that major companies are making public sustainability commitments and using high-profile forums to push for change. For Spain and the rest of Europe, cleaner transport is already taking shape, backed by leading manufacturers through concrete deals and visible progress.
