MG has launched a significant update for its ZS SUV in Spain, introducing enhanced hybrid performance, upgraded equipment, and refreshed interiors. The changes position the ZS as a stronger contender in the competitive family SUV segment.

MG has shaken up Spain’s SUV scene. The company just rolled out a major update to its ZS lineup. This new MY26.5 version brings a sharper hybrid system, more tech, and a clear focus on value. MG says the ZS has already sold over 85,000 units in Spain and more than a million worldwide.

The biggest change? It’s in the MG ZS Hybrid+. The car keeps its 197 CV combined output and 1.83 kWh battery. But now it gets a reworked electric motor and generator. MG claims the upgrades make the drive smoother and quieter. The car should also feel quicker to respond. Official numbers for fuel use and performance are still under wraps. The three-speed automatic gearbox stays the same. MG promises a more refined and lively drive.

According to ANFAC, 16,708 MG ZS units were registered in Spain from January to September 2026, making it the country’s best-selling Chinese-origin car despite a 13.2% year-on-year sales decline.

Equipment has jumped up a notch. Comfort and Business trims now come with a 360° high-definition camera, rear parking sensors, and wireless phone charging as standard. The Luxury trim adds an electric tailgate and a panoramic sunroof. MG is pushing the ZS upmarket but keeping its value focus.

Step inside and the changes stand out. Hybrid+ Standard, Comfort, and Business models now have new black fabric seats. The Hybrid+ Luxury gets black leather and suede-style upholstery. Petrol Comfort models also get this premium touch. MG is blurring the line between budget and premium in the family SUV market.

Practicality is still a big selling point. The ZS offers a 358-litre boot, a 4.43-metre length, and 30 storage spaces inside. These numbers matter for families who need space every day. MG keeps its reputation as Spain’s most affordable SUV. Petrol models start at €17,990. The Hybrid+ starts at €22,840, or €20,340 with financing. MG’s deals include up to €3,500 in discounts for the hybrid and a €2,850 Sales Boost for petrol. The brand hasn’t revealed the full details of these offers.

Independent tests confirm that the MG ZS Hybrid+ delivers a combined output of 197 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 8.7 seconds. However, real-world fuel consumption can rise to 7–8 l/100 km in hilly conditions, and no new certified consumption figures for the MY26.5 update have been published in independent sources.

MG’s rise in Spain is no fluke. The ZS now ranks fifth among all models nationally for 2026. That’s a sign MG knows what Spanish buyers want. This fits a wider trend. As previously reported, Chinese carmakers like SAIC are using Spain’s demand to build a strong base in Europe.

MG hasn’t shared new efficiency or performance data for the updated ZS Hybrid+. But the strategy is clear. The brand is packing in more tech and comfort at a price that undercuts old-school rivals. For Spanish families looking for their next SUV, the ZS just got harder to ignore. The real question is whether these upgrades will keep sales strong as 2027 approaches. For now, MG’s push shows that the affordable, well-equipped hybrid SUV is no longer a future promise. It’s already in Spanish showrooms.
