Polestar confirms the launch date for its new Polestar 4 SUV, promising up to 630 km of range and 544 HP. The model aims to blend practicality with the brand’s signature design and performance.
Polestar has officially announced that its highly anticipated Polestar 4 SUV will be unveiled on September 2, marking a significant expansion of the Swedish brand’s electric vehicle portfolio. Designed to offer greater versatility and everyday practicality, the new SUV builds on the foundation of the Polestar 4 coupé, but introduces a more spacious and flexible body style aimed at families and drivers seeking more utility without sacrificing performance.
The Polestar 4 SUV is engineered on a dedicated chassis, optimized for dynamic handling and sporty driving characteristics. According to the company, the new model will be available with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The rear-motor version is expected to deliver up to 630 kilometers of range on a single charge, while the dual-motor, all-wheel drive variant will offer up to 544 horsepower, positioning it as a direct competitor to established electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model Y, Lexus RZ, and Xpeng G6.
While Polestar has yet to reveal full technical specifications, it has confirmed that the SUV will use a 400V electrical architecture and is likely to feature the same 102 kWh battery pack (94 kWh usable) as the coupé. This should ensure competitive charging speeds and long-distance capability, key factors for buyers in the premium electric SUV segment.
Visually, the only official image released so far shows the rear three-quarter view, hinting at the brand’s signature smooth lines and a D-pillar design reminiscent of Volvo’s SUVs. The interior is expected to follow Polestar’s minimalist approach, with a large 15.4-inch central touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster dominating the dashboard.
Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, emphasized the demand for a more practical version of the Polestar 4, stating, “The Polestar 4 has quickly become a favorite among our customers, and we’ve seen strong interest from drivers looking for distinctive design and performance combined with greater practicality. With the Polestar 4 SUV, we’re building on that success by offering even more versatility without losing the essence of the Polestar 4.”
The new SUV will be produced at Polestar’s facility in Busan, South Korea, and will be available for order in most major markets. The company plans to release more details as the launch date approaches, but the initial announcement signals Polestar’s intent to challenge the segment’s leading electric SUVs with a blend of Scandinavian design, advanced technology, and robust performance.
