The National Police have opened separate investigations after two men were found dead in Valladolid and Salamanca on Sunday morning, 9 August 2026. Officers are working to establish the circumstances surrounding each death.
The first incident took place in Salamanca around 8:00 a.m., when emergency services received a call about an unconscious man partially submerged in a fountain on Avenida de la Merced, near the Municipal Fire Station. Emergency teams from Emergencias Sanitarias-Sacyl responded alongside local and National Police. They confirmed the death of a man estimated to be around 40 years old. María Pedrosa reported the discovery for El Norte de Castilla, citing information from the 112 emergency services. Her report was published at 11:29 a.m. The National Police opened an investigation into how the man came to be in the fountain and the circumstances of his death.
About an hour later, at around 9:00 a.m., a kayaker on the Pisuerga River in Valladolid reported finding another body on the river’s left bank, near Calle María Moliner. Firefighters from the Valladolid City Council recovered the body, which belonged to a middle-aged man. Emergency medical teams attended alongside municipal and National Police officers. A forensic specialist was called in to help establish the cause and circumstances of the man’s death.
Authorities have not released further details about the identities of the deceased or the specific causes of death in either case. The investigations remain open. In Salamanca, the circumstances were still under investigation when the discovery was reported; no conclusion about the cause or manner of death had been announced.
