The PP says its AI-made video is political communication, while the PSOE is assessing whether it could amount to an offence or infringement. Ferraz is weighing court action or a complaint to a data-protection or AI regulator.

Ferraz has yet to decide whether to take the case to court or ask an administrative authority to examine the clip. The PSOE is studying possible legal action against the PP, saying the video could amount to an offence or infringement.

The clip features fabricated versions of six people.

Among them are Begoña Gómez and former prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. It also depicts former PSOE organisational secretary Santos Cerdán and former spokeswoman Montse Mínguez, alongside José Luis Ábalos and Leire Díez.

The party’s legal team is reviewing a possible court filing. It is also considering an administrative complaint, potentially to the Spanish Data Protection Agency or the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of AI. The PSOE has not said which route it will take.

PP spokesperson Borja Sémper defended using AI in the party’s social-media videos. He said the images were realistic but easy to distinguish from real footage, and presented the format as a way to criticise what he called the PSOE’s hypocrisy. Esther Muñoz made a similar case on Antena 3, arguing that the PP had adapted to internet language and was using the same tools as its political opponents.

Online political organising has also featured in a report on student-union discussions about protest tactics. This dispute centres on AI-generated images circulated by a political party.

The PP continues to defend the videos as political communication. The PSOE’s legal services are still assessing the content and have not specified whether they will approach a court or an administrative authority.
