The Council of Ministers of Spain has officially approved a new wave of the Verano Joven 2026 program, aimed at supporting youth mobility. The government is allocating 130 million euros for these purposes, which will allow young people aged 18 to 30 to receive significant discounts on train, bus, and even Interrail tickets.
The program will run from July 1 to September 30, 2026. The benefits will be available to Spanish citizens and legal residents born between January 1, 1996, and December 31, 2008. To receive a discount, participants must register online on the program's website with their DNI or NIE, after which they will receive a personal code to purchase tickets at a reduced price.
Terms and discounts
The amount of the discount depends on the chosen type of transport. For intercity buses and medium-distance trains, the discount will be 90%. Avant tickets and high-speed or long-distance trains of all operators will be discounted 50%, but not more than 30 euros per ticket. For European travel using Interrail, there is a 50% discount on the Global Flexible Pass for 10 days within two months, if the ticket is issued through Renfe. Important: discounts apply only to tickets purchased after receiving the personal code.
Results from previous years
Since the launch of the Verano Joven initiative, more than 4 million young people have taken advantage of it, and the total number of subsidized trips has exceeded 16 million. According to the ministry, the average savings per bus ticket reached 24.5 euros, and on high-speed trains — 18 euros. For group trips within the country or across Europe, savings can reach up to 300 euros.
Significance for the country
The authorities expect that the new wave of the program will once again stimulate domestic tourism, support cultural exchange, and help young people discover small towns and rural regions. Last year, the number of subsidized trips increased by 30%, and the number of participants grew by 10%.
