In Madrid, applications have opened for subsidies for companies and autónomos willing to hire young employees under the age of 30. The support can reach up to €5,500 per new employee, provided they are registered as job seekers and enrolled in the Garantía Juvenil system. This initiative aims to reduce youth unemployment, which in Spain remains one of the highest in Europe—about 25% among citizens under 25 years old.
The gender gap in this sector is also noticeable: according to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística, youth unemployment among women reaches 27.1%, while among men it is 26%. In such circumstances, government incentives become a key tool for employers willing to invest in young professionals.
Who can receive the subsidy
The program runs until 2026 and is open to legal entities, autónomos, and non-profit organizations that sign employment contracts with young people registered as unemployed and included in the Garantía Juvenil system. The main requirement is that the contract must be for a full-time position or at least 75% of full-time hours, and the employer must not have outstanding debts to the state.
Amount and conditions of payments
The base amount of the subsidy is €5,500 for each young employee hired on a permanent or formative contract. An additional €500 can be granted if the worker is a woman or has family obligations. In cases of special vulnerability (for example, if the worker comes from a large or single-parent family), the payment increases by another €1,000.
For autónomos hiring an employee for the first time, there is an additional bonus of up to €2,000. This is especially relevant for small businesses, where initial expenses often become a barrier to staff expansion.
How to apply
Applications are accepted exclusively online through the Comunidad de Madrid electronic platform. Employers may apply for the subsidy throughout the year as long as budget funds are available and all requirements are met.

Similar programs are available in other autonomous communities. For example, under the Emplea-T scheme in Andalusia, employers can receive from €7,500 to €20,000 for a permanent contract with a young specialist, while in Galicia payments reach €16,625 under certain conditions. Such measures usually require the worker to be registered as unemployed, be part of the Garantía Juvenil system, and stay in the job for at least two years.
The problem of youth employment in Spain remains acute not only because of high unemployment rates, but also due to difficulties with formal employment.
