Valencia Court Begins Hearing in Case Against Elche Forward Rafa Mir. The trial of Elche striker Rafa Mir over an alleged assault has started in Valencia. The victim gave a detailed account of the events at the footballer's home. Prosecutors are seeking a 10-year prison sentence for Mir.

A court case on sexual assault charges has begun in Valencia, with Elche striker Rafa Mir as the defendant. At the first hearing, the victim, who was 21 at the time of the incident, gave detailed testimony about what happened in September 2024 at the footballer’s home in Bétera. She claimed that Mir used force, restrained her, and engaged in sexual acts without her consent. The young woman stated that she could not resist, and after the incident, she sought help from her father and the police.

According to the case files, after the initial incident in the pool, the defendant attacked the victim again, this time in the bathroom. The second victim, now 26 years old, also testified, stating that she became a victim of another player — Pablo Jara, who is also implicated in the case. Mir’s defense insists that everything happened with mutual consent, while a witness present in the house claimed not to have noticed any signs of violence.

Prosecutors are seeking 10 years and 6 months in prison for Rafa Mir, along with additional measures — 7.5 years of supervised release and an 8-year ban on working with minors. For Pablo Jara, 3 years of imprisonment and a five-year restraining order from the victim are requested. The victim asked the police to seize surveillance camera footage from the footballer’s home. The court notes that the case contains not only testimonies but also medical reports and other evidence.

The incident occurred when Rafa Mir was playing for Valencia on loan from Sevilla. According to the investigation, the footballer's actions involved the use of physical force and resulted in injuries to the victim. Court documents state that after the first assault, the woman tried to leave the house, but was detained again by the accused. The second victim also reported violence by another player.

In Spain, cases of sexual offenses involving public figures attract wide public attention. In such cases, victims can access support from specialized services. There is a helpline for victims of violence at 016, as well as email and WhatsApp options. In emergencies, it is recommended to call 112 or contact the police directly. It is important to note that Spanish football has already seen high-profile cases that have affected the reputations of clubs and players. In the context of sports news, it is worth recalling how Barcelona's women's team ended their season amid increased scrutiny regarding player safety and behavior.

Court proceedings in the Rafa Mir case are ongoing. Additional witnesses are expected to testify and new evidence may be presented in the coming weeks. The court's decision could set a precedent for similar cases in Spanish sports.
