On September 26, 2026, the Rally Villa de Llanes stopped after 20-year-old co-driver Soraya Barreiro died in a crash on the El Mazucu stage. Her BMW 325i left the road and caught fire. Driver Germán Romano escaped with burns, but Barreiro did not make it out. MARCA and El Comercio reported the details.
Barreiro's brother, fellow competitor Pablo Barreiro, reached the scene soon after. The 2026 edition was the rally's 49th running, and the El Mazucu stage was new that year. Four special stages remained on the schedule, but the event could not continue, Motorsport and La Voz de Asturias reported.
Organizers called off the rest of the rally, and all cars returned to parc fermé. No one completed the remaining stages. ‘Cohete’ Suárez was named champion, but Escudería Villa de Llanes suspended the event
