Spanish police have detained two men in Barcelona in connection with the violent kidnapping and assault of a Yemeni national in Torrox, Málaga. The incident took place in May 2026 and involved three attackers. They forced the victim into a car and drove him to a remote area, where they beat and robbed him before leaving him injured in an abandoned field.
The case came to light when the victim, despite severe facial injuries, managed to reach a nearby service station in Torrox for help. Local authorities provided medical assistance and transferred him first to the Axarquía regional hospital and later to the Hospital Regional Universitario de Málaga. He remained under observation for several days because of the extent of his injuries.
Information from the Guardia Civil, the victim said he was walking along Torrox Costa when three individuals assaulted him and forced him into a vehicle. They took him to an isolated area known as Pago de la Dehesa, south of the A-7 motorway. There, he was held against his will and beaten. The attackers also threatened him with a firearm and robbed him of a impressive sum of cash. They abandoned him in a deserted area, and he managed to walk to a gas station for assistance.
Investigators used the victim’s account and details about when and where the incident took place to identify the vehicle involved. The suspects were identified, and the victim recognized their faces. The Guardia Civil issued a nationwide alert; within days, the Mossos d’Esquadra located and arrested two of the suspects in Barcelona. The third individual remained at large as of the report’s publication on 5 August 2026.
The two detainees face charges described as illegal detention and armed threats, along with violent robbery and serious bodily harm. The investigation remains open as authorities continue efforts to apprehend the third suspect.
National crime statistics published by Spain’s Ministry of the Interior track known offences per 1,000 inhabitants. The annual series cited runs through 2025, its latest year. Separate figures offer a limited picture of rural crime in Málaga: offences involving theft in agricultural areas fell from 492 in 2014 to 144 in 2025, a decline of more than 70%, according to local reporting citing ministry data. Those figures concern thefts in the countryside, not kidnapping or violent robbery.
Torrox, a coastal town in Málaga province, has an international community and draws residents from abroad as well as tourists. In comments reported by local media, Javier Salas, then outgoing Subdelegado del Gobierno en Málaga, described the province as “muy segura” and said overall crime rates were declining, while acknowledging that serious incidents could cause public concern. The arrests in this case followed the identification of the suspects and cooperation between the Guardia Civil and the Mossos d’Esquadra. The search for the third individual was continuing at the time of publication.
