In Orihuela Costa (Alicante province), two men were detained after a dangerous chase that ended in a head-on collision with a Civil Guard patrol car. The incident occurred on Monday in the Villamartin and La Zenia areas, where officers from the USECIC unit in Torrevieja spotted a vehicle that ignored a yield sign at a roundabout. An attempt to stop the car led to the driver accelerating sharply, initiating a pursuit through busy streets.
During the chase, the driver made dangerous maneuvers, including driving on sidewalks, posing a threat to pedestrians and other road users. The situation escalated to the point that officers had to block the offender's path with several police vehicles near La Zenia to prevent possible injuries among citizens.
As a result of the chase, the suspects' vehicle crashed into an official Civil Guard patrol car. One officer was injured and taken to the hospital for medical attention. Both detainees, men aged 30 and 34, were unharmed, but were also taken for medical examination before being brought to court.
During a search of the vehicle, police found 1.5 kilograms of marijuana in the form of buds and a small amount of hashish. According to RUSSPAIN, the detainees are facing charges under several articles: illegal drug trafficking, dangerous driving, resisting and disobeying law enforcement officers, as well as causing property damage.
Cases involving threats to life and health on the roads remain a focus for the Spanish authorities. In similar situations, such as when the Burgos police detained a man for leaving a child unattended in the street, emergency services react promptly to prevent consequences. In recent years, Spain has tightened measures against illegal drug trafficking and dangerous driving, and the Civil Guard regularly conducts raids in coastal areas, where an increase in such incidents is recorded. According to official statistics, dozens of cases of drug transportation with attempts to evade police are detected annually in the province of Alicante.
