Despite the continued rise in prices, residents of Spain do not intend to give up their vacation plans for 2025. Instead, they are actively looking for ways to optimize expenses to keep traveling. According to a recent survey, most Spaniards are ready to adjust their habits to fit holidays into the family budget.
The main strategies to counter inflation include saving more actively throughout the year, carefully searching for special offers and discounts, and cutting other personal expenses. These three measures proved to be the most popular among respondents. In addition, Spaniards are considering other options: choosing more affordable travel destinations, traveling in the low season to find better prices, and shortening the duration of their trips. Some are also willing to look for ways to share costs with travel companions.
Interestingly, about one in five respondents (around 20%) said they do not plan to take any additional steps, as the current price level is not critical for them and allows them to travel without restrictions.
Alongside traditional saving methods, new financial tools are also gaining popularity. Around 40% of travelers are considering taking out a loan for their vacation. The use of 'buy now, pay later' services is also on the rise; according to European research, every third resident of Europe already uses them. Experts note that these trends reflect a strong desire among Spaniards to preserve the ability to travel. Another trend confirmed is early booking, which helps lock in prices and better manage budgets.
Analysis of the responses revealed significant differences in saving strategies depending on gender and age. Women are more likely than men to look for discounts, plan their savings more carefully, and are more willing to cut personal expenses. They also tend to choose more affordable travel destinations.
As for age groups, young people aged 18 to 34 focus on saving in advance, while being the least willing to cut back on daily personal spending. This group is also the most open to traveling during the off-season for lower prices. In contrast, Spaniards aged 50 to 64 are more likely than others to opt for more affordable holiday locations. The oldest group, those aged 65 to 74, prefer to reduce personal expenses and are more often willing to shorten their trips to stay within budget.
