Waze is taking a significant step forward by launching a set of features designed to transform how motorcyclists and drivers navigate daily routes. The latest update introduces a dedicated motorcycle mode, personalized navigation powered by artificial intelligence, and a streamlined way to report incidents and find destinations using voice commands.

With the new personalized navigation, Waze now learns from each user's travel habits. If a driver consistently prefers highways over city streets, the app will prioritize those routes, while still allowing easy access to alternatives or the option to disable personalization entirely. This feature is being rolled out globally, aiming to reduce friction and make route planning more intuitive.

Motorcycle Mode Debuts

One of the most anticipated additions is the motorcycle mode. Recognizing that motorcycles can maneuver through narrow streets but are more vulnerable to road imperfections, Waze has tailored its routing to highlight hazards that specifically affect riders—such as potholes, speed bumps, and raised pedestrian crossings. This is made possible by combining real-time traffic data with insights from a specialized team of motorcycle map editors who identify and verify new risks.

The motorcycle mode is initially available in select countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, and the Philippines, with plans for a broader rollout. The gradual introduction reflects Waze's commitment to adapting its technology to the unique needs of different regions and road users.

Smarter Alerts and AI Integration

Waze is also refining how it communicates with users. The new 'less conversational' mode minimizes interruptions by shortening notifications, while still ensuring that critical alerts—such as hazards, turns, and lane changes—are delivered promptly. This option is especially appealing to those who prefer to focus on music or the road rather than frequent voice prompts.

Artificial intelligence, powered by Gemini, is now at the core of Waze's reporting and search functions. Users can simply say, “The road is closed here,” and the app will relay the information to local map editors for verification and updates. Additionally, the AI can help drivers find destinations even when they're unsure where to go. By tapping the voice search icon, users can ask for an open café, nearby parking, or the cheapest gas station in the area, receiving tailored suggestions in real time.

Continuous Evolution

These updates build on previous enhancements introduced earlier this year, such as warnings for speed bumps on in-car displays, alerts for toll zones, sharp curves, and clearer roundabout instructions. Waze also notifies drivers about emergency vehicles nearby and temporary speed limit reductions in construction zones, helping users adapt and avoid fines. All of these improvements leverage AI to deliver timely, relevant information.

The push for smarter, more adaptive navigation is not unique to Waze. Other mobility brands are also innovating, as seen when Citroën collaborated with Rip Curl to launch special editions of the Ami electric car, blending technology and lifestyle for urban drivers. This trend toward personalization and user-focused design is reshaping expectations across the mobility sector.

As Waze continues to refine its platform, the integration of AI and specialized modes signals a broader shift in how navigation apps respond to the diverse realities of modern travel. For motorcyclists and drivers alike, these changes promise a more comfortable, safer, and responsive journey—one that adapts to individual needs and the ever-changing conditions of the road.
