A new conflict has erupted in Spanish show business, instantly becoming a topic of discussion on social networks and in the media. Gloria Camila Ortega, daughter of the legendary bullfighter José Ortega Cano, could not contain her emotions after stylist Pelayo Díaz, on air in the program ‘El tiempo justo,’ supported the opinion that bullfighters can be called “murderers.” This episode became the starting point for Gloria’s stormy reaction, as she is not used to leaving such attacks on her family unanswered.
Clash on Air
It all began when María José Campanario tried to defend her husband, the bullfighter Jesulín de Ubrique, after a wave of criticism and insults directed at him. A heated debate broke out in the studio: Pelayo Díaz stated that if a person kills animals, they can indeed be called a “murderer.” Gloria Camila disagreed with this position, emphasizing that we are talking about a profession, not a crime. She reminded everyone that her father is a bullfighter and that she does not intend to tolerate such labels.
Response on Social Media
The controversy did not die down after the broadcast. Gloria Camila continued the discussion on Instagram, where she posted a clip from the program and promised to explain her position in more detail. In a series of stories, she emphasized that she does not demand that others love bullfighting, but insists on respecting those for whom it is a profession. In her words, in recent days she had observed how bullfighters are being called “murderers” with alarming ease, and this leaves her perplexed.
What particularly outraged Gloria was the fact that many of those who criticize bullfighting themselves wear or buy items made of genuine leather and fur. She pointed out that fashion brands, even those favored by the staunchest opponents of bullfighting, often use animal-derived materials. As an example, Gloria mentioned Pelayo Díaz himself, who, according to her, continues to choose accessories and clothing made from leather and fur despite his public statements.
Double standards and old videos
In an attempt to highlight contradictions in the stylist’s stance, Gloria published an archive YouTube video where Pelayo Díaz, back in 2017, defended his remarks about fur and insisted he had never bought a fur coat. However, according to Gloria, in both 2024 and 2025 he continues to appear with accessories made of natural materials—for example, a Dior bag made of sheepskin or Tod’s loafers crafted from cow and goat leather.
Gloria Camila believes that if one is to debate animal rights, it is important to be consistent in all areas of life, not just when it comes to bullfighting. She emphasized that her father is not just a topic for discussion, but a real person, and urged people not to cross the line from criticism into insult. In Gloria’s view, public attacks and dehumanization do not strengthen arguments but only undermine trust in those who make them.
Media resonance
This dispute did not go unnoticed among fans and television colleagues. The Spanish press has repeatedly discussed cases where children from prominent families become the subject of public debate—for example, in the story of the coming of age of Paloma Cuevas and Enrique Ponce’s daughter, when the young woman openly stated her position for the first time and received the full support of her family. You can read more about this case in the article about the rare statement from Paloma Cuevas’ daughter.
As Divinity notes, Gloria Camila did not apologize or soften her stance. She made it clear that she doesn’t care whether others like bullfighting, but she demands respect for others’ choices and calls for honesty in one’s own views. This episode once again highlighted how sensitive topics tied to traditions, family, and celebrities’ personal boundaries are in Spain.
